King Kohli gets clean bowled for 6 in Ranji Trophy return for Delhi; crowds make hasty exit after Virat no-show

GUWAHATI, Jan 31: Indian batting great Virat Kohli’s return to domestic cricket ended in disappointment after he was castled for just 6 runs by Railways pacer Himangshu Sangwan on Day 2 of Delhi’s Ranji game at the Arun Jaitley Stadium.

The return of Kohli, hailed as one of Delhi’s greatest cricketing sons, to the domestic circuit had led huge crowds flocking into the stadium since yesterday but most of them left as soon as Sangwan dismissed the former India captain.

Kohli, who took to the crease after the fall of Yash Dhul’s wicket, was welcomed by the ‘monstrous’ crowd with a loud cheer.

However, Virat’s vigil at the crease lasted for only 15 balls as he, who had hit the Railways pacer for a four down the ground in the previous ball, stepped out yet again but the ball sneaked passed bat and pad and hit the off-stump, cart-wheeling it to the slips, and thereby signalling that revenge had been taken for the previous-ball boundary.

Incidentally, Himangshu Sangwan is also from Delhi and was born in Najafgarh locality of the national capital. He had joined Railways as a ticket collector before making his Ranji debut in 2019.
