History sheeter who had snatched a bag from a woman in Hatigaon on Monday shot at by police, injured

GUWAHATI, Jan 29: In another big development, Guwahati City Police had to fire at a history sheeter named Jewel Khan, who was involved in Monday’s incident of bag snatching at Banphul Path in Hatigaon, after he reportedly attacked the police team with a sharp machete.

The accused was injured in the police firing and has been admitted to hospital, Mrinal Deka, DCP, Guwahati East, said.

He stated that the accused had snatched a bag of valuables from a woman named Biju Sharma following which the victim suffered serious injuries and had to be admitted to hospital.

“After an inquiry was launched, we were able to recover two ATM cards along with other valuables contained in the bag of the woman. But the accused gave the police team a slip. However, when he was tracked by the team, he refused to give himself in and charged the cops with a sharp machete. The police team had to fire in self defence in which the accused, identified as Jewel Khan who is a history sheeter and has several cases registered against him, was injured,” Deka stated.
