Businessman from Assam’s Hailakandi among Maha Kumbh stampede victims
GUWAHATI, Jan 29: A devotee from Hailakandi district of Assam has died in the tragic stampede incident at the Maha Kumbh in Prayagraj, his family has confirmed.
Nitya Ranjan Paul, a businessman, had gone to Prayagraj on January 26 for the Maha Kumbh and was scheduled to have a hold dip at Triveni Sangam today.
He died in the stampede that took place around 1 am Wednesday, his family members were informed by authorities from Uttar Pradesh.
Meanwhile, President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi have expressed their condolences at the loss of lives in the stampede.
“The stampede incident at the Prayagraj Maha Kumbh is extremely saddening. I express my condolences to the families of the deceased devotees and pray to God for the speedy recovery of injured devotees,” President Murmu stated.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi also expressed his “deepest condolences to devotees who lost loved ones” in the stampede at Prayagraj after a sea of devotees thronged for the ‘Amrit Snan’ at Tribeni Sangam on the auspicious occasion of Mauni Amavasya.
“The tragic incident that took place in Prayagraj Maha Kumbh is extremely distressing. My deepest condolences to the devotees who have lost their loved ones. I wish for the speedy recovery of the injured. The local administration is engaged in helping the victims in every possible way. I have spoken to Chief Minister Yogi ji and I am constantly in touch with the state government,” Prime Minister Modi stated on ‘X’.
