At least 30 injured in stampede at Maha Kumbh Mela; situation under control, don’t heed to rumours, says CM Yogi Adityanath

GUWAHATI, Jan 29: At least 30 devotees, mostly women, were reportedly injured after a stampede-like situation broke out at the Maha Kumbh in the early hours of Wednesday, reports stated.

The incident took place after a large number of pilgrims gathered for the holy bath on Mauni Amavasya which is considered to be a very significant ritual attracting crores of devotees.

Meanwhile, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath appealed devotees to not pay attention to any kind of rumours while asking them to follow guidelines and cooperate with authorities.

“Take bath at the ghat of Mother Ganga near which you are, do not try to go towards Sangam Nose. All of you should follow the instructions of the administration and cooperate in making arrangements. People are bathing peacefully at all the ghats of Sangam. Do not pay any attention to any rumours,” he wrote on ‘X’.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also spoke with the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister over the situation while Union Home Minister Amit Shah also dialed him, assuring him of full assistance from the Centre.
