At Guwahati’s Mathgharia, nephew kills uncle after drunken brawl; accused taken into custody

GUWAHATI, Jan 24: A man died after he was assaulted by his nephew after a drunken brawl at Mathgharia locality of Guwahati yesterday night.
The deceased, identified as 45-year-old Uday Rai Choudhury, was declared “brought dead” at hospital.
The deceased was consuming alcohol with the accused, his nephew Raja Basumatary, at a house in Mathgharia yesterday night when an altercation ensued between them.
It quickly spiralled into a heated war of words following which the accused hit his uncle with a wooden plank.
Uday, bleeding profusely after being hit by Raja, was rushed to hospital where he was declared brought dead.
The accused nephew was later arrested by police.
