SM Krishna, former Karnataka CM, dies at 92; Karnataka Govt announces 3-day State mourning
GUWAHATI, Dec 10: Veteran politician and former Karnataka Chief Minister SM Krishna passed away at the age of 92 today.
Krishna, who was Chief Minister of Karnataka from 1999 to 2004 besides also serving as External Affairs Minister in the Manmohan Singh-led UPA Government from 2009 to 2012, died at his home in Bengaluru after a prolonged illness.
He had also served as governor of Maharashtra from 2004 to 2008.
He is survived by his wife and two daughters.
Karnataka Government has announced a 3-day mourning following the passing away of the veteran politician.
He will be cremated at his village in Mandya district with full state honours tomorrow.
Conferred the Padma Vibhushan in 2023 for his contribution to the field of public affairs, SM Krishna had joined the BJP in 2017 ending his 50-year association with the Congress party.
He is most known for promoting the Karnataka capital as ‘Brand Bengaluru’ while he was Chief Minister of the State.
