Union Min Gadkari ‘onboards’ 11 contractors to speed up NH four-laning from Jorhat to Dibrugarh
GUWAHATI, Nov 27: Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari has written to Assam Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma regarding concerns raised by the latter over slow pace of four-laning work of the Jorhat-to-Dibrugarh stretch of the national highway.
The Union Minister, while acknowledging that construction work has been runing behind schedule “due to several factors”, said that to facilitate efficient execution the section of the earstwhile National Highway 37 has been divided into “smaller fractions and work is going on with 11 contractors overboarded”.
The Union Minister further stated that since construction work requires substantial quantity of raw materials, including approximately 12 lakh cubic meters of earth, 11 lakh cubic metres of sand, and 5 lakh cubic tons of boulders, which he said remains a big challenge, he has strictly instructed the NHIDCL to tackle all challenges and make the highway “traffic-worthy”.
Gadkari further said that the Road Transport and Highways Ministry would implement all measures for timely completion of the projects.
