Mumbai woman forced to strip on video call; pays fraudsters Rs 1.7 lakh after threatened with ‘digital arrest’
GUWAHATI, Dec 1: A woman living in Mumbai and working with a pharma company has become the latest victim of “digital arrest” and was scammed of Rs 1.7 lakh by scamsters who introduced themselves as Delhi Police officers over phone.
Not only was the woman scammed of money, the miscreants also forced her to strip over a video call under the pretext of a “body verification”, reports stated.
The incident reportedly took place between Nov 19 and 20.
The fraudsters, reports further said, first called the victim and made her believe that she was booked in a money-laundering case. They then kept her engaged in a conversation and made her book a hotel room, then forced her to strip before defrauding her of Rs 1.7 lakh.
The victim, after realising that she had been scammed and that the callers were not Delhi Police officers, filed a complaint with Mumbai Police.
Investigations are presently underway but no arrests have reportedly been made so far.
