Tragedy strikes Dhubri’s Golokganj amid Durga Puja festivities, speeding car mows down pedestrians killing four children
GUWAHATI, Oct 11: Four children, all belonging to an extended family, were killed after they were mowed down by a speeding vehicle at Golokganj in Assam’s Dhubri district. Among the deceased is a 40-day infant.
While three children died on the spot, the fourth breathed its last while being taking to hospital.
The deceased children have been identified as Jubair Hussain, Mehedi Hasan, Marian Khatun and 40-day-old Rihan.
The incident took place early in the morning when the kids had gone out for a morning stroll, police said.
Eyewitnesses said they saw the speeding vehicle, a KIA Sonet bearing registration number AS-17L-6331, going towards the direction of Agomoni knocking down the children who were waiting by the side of the National Highway 17.
“The accident took place around 5 am and the car knocked down the four children and then plunged into the roadside marshes. Three children died on the spot while the fourth died on way to hospital,” an eyewitness said.
