Ayodhya sails into record books with over 25 lakh diyas lit on Deepotsav

GUWAHATI, Oct 31: Deepotsav celebrations at Ayodhya in Uttar Pradesh this year entered the record books with over 25 lakh diyas lit on the banks of the Sarayu river amid the historic celebrations.

Diwali celebrations at Ayodhya this year held special significance as it marked the first festivities since the consecration of the Ram Temple.

The Uttar Pradesh government had planned to light up at least 28 lakh diyas although 25,12,585 diyas, to be exact, were lit up to create the new world record.

The other record, set for the first time, was for the highest number of people performing an “aarti” simultaneously. 1,121 vedacharyas rotated the diyas along the Saryu to etch the second record.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi termed the festivities “amazing, incomparable and unimaginable”.

“Many congratulations to the people of Ayodhya for the grand and divine Deepotsav! This Jyotiparva at the holy birthplace of Ram Lalla, illuminated by millions of diyas, is going to be emotional. This beam of light emanating from Ayodhya Dham will fill my family members across the country with new enthusiasm and new energy,” the Prime Minister said in a post on social media.
