Guwahati: Body of 8-year-old Avinash Sarkar recovered from a drain in Rajgarh after 3 days
The body of 8-year-old Avinash Sarkar who was washed away by floodwaters 3 days ago in Guwahati’s Jyotinagar area has been recovered from a drain in Rajagrh today.
The body has been found after 3 days of extensive search and rescue operation by SDRF, NDRF and state police.
Avinash’s father had said earlier that he and Avinash were heading home with on a two-wheeler on Thursday night. Since there was traffic jam in the main road, he took a shortcut at Jyotinagar, but the shortcut route was flooded heavily with water upto the neck. The scooter suddenly slipped and Avinash fell into a drain that was not covered. He tried to get hold of him but could not and Avinash was swept away by the raging flood waters.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma took to X and condoled the demise of the child.
“Deeply pained! With a heavy heart, we have learnt that the child’s body has been found. My deepest condolences go out to his parents and family during this unimaginable time. I also extend my heartfelt gratitude to the dedicated personnel of the NDRF, SDRF, Police, and District Administration for their tireless efforts in the search and rescue operations,” CM Sarma posted on X.
Yesterday, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma met the parents of Avinash and assured them that search operations will not stop until Avinash is found.
The drain in which the 8-year-old fell is connected to the Brahmaputra via the Bharalu River.
