Assam: Boat with 20 people capsizes in Goalpara, 4 dead, 1 missing; search ops on

Four bodies have been recovered, and one person is still missing after a boat capsized in the Goalpara district of Assam on Thursday.

The incident took place in the Simlitola Narayanpara area of the Goalpara district when a country boat carrying 20 villagers capsized.

As per reports, the villagers were returning from a cremation.

SDRF teams are engaged in search and rescue operations.

SDRF officials informed the media that floodwaters have not inundated the crematorium, which is approximately 250 meters away from human settlements.

The deceased have been identified as Sujan Malakar (34), Jit Karmakar (17) and Prasenjit Saha (age yet to be ascertained), and Gouranga Malakar (47).

The missing person has been identified as Uday Sarkar (50).
