Cyclone ‘Remal’: Assam on high alert, don’t venture unless emergency
In a high alert issued by the Assam Chief Minister’s Office, residents in several areas are urged to take precautions as Cyclone Remal makes landfall, resulting in widespread damage.
Areas including Dhubri, Goalpara, Barpeta, Karimganj, Hailakandi, Cachar, and Dima Hasao are advised to avoid fishing and agricultural activities due to the risk of falling trees and strong winds.
The alert extends to Cachar, Dima Hasao, Barpeta, Nalbari, Baksa, and Chirang.
However, the impact of Cyclone Remal is felt across Assam, including in Guwahati city, with reports of severe damages, fallen trees blocking roads, and significant power outages since early morning.
CM Himanta Biswa Sarma stated, “Heavy storms are lashing parts of the state and are expected to continue. I’ve instructed officials to be alert to respond to exigencies at the earliest.”
Moreover, he further requested citizens to not venture out unless there is an emergency and to stay safe.
