Voter turn out in 1st phase of Lok Sabha Polls in Assam satisfactory: CM Sarma

Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma on Wednesday said that that voter turnout in the 1st phase Lok Sabha polls in Assam was satisfactory.

Speaking to the media on the sidelines of an event CM Sarma said that voter turnout in Assam was satisfactory and BJP will win all five seats in the first phase of the polls.

“We will win all five seats in the first phase–five out of five clean sweeps. We will also win the Karimganj seat in the second phase. In the third phase, except for Dhubri, we will win other seats. But there will be a contest in Dhubri and a good campaign is underway,” said the Assam Chief Minister.

The chief minister said that results in all five constituencies will be in favor of the BJP as a response to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his work.

The overall voting percentage across the country in the 1st phase Lok Sabha polls was around 62.34%, as per the Election Commission of India data till 9 pm on April 19.

The final figure is yet to be released by the ECI. Though there was an overall dip in the voter turnout in the 1st phase across the country, in Assam, however, the voter turnout till 9 pm on April 19 was around 78.25%.

The second phase of polls for five Lok Sabha seats in Assam – Silchar, Karimganj, Diphu, Nagaon, and Darrang-Udalguri will be held on April 26.

Altogether, 60 candidates filed their nomination papers for four parliamentary constituencies in the state that are going to the polls in the third phase on May 7.
