“Last time when Ratan Tata was in Dibrugarh to opening the cancer care he said that for rest of his life he wants to work for development of Assam. I will personally go to Mumbai and meet Tata and express our gratitude,” Sarma said.
He said that the unit will provide 15,000 direct employment and at 11,000 to 16,000 indirect jobs. “Our tech guys working in places like Bangalore and Hyderabad can now come back home and work in Assam,” he added.
“This is an important milestone for Assam’s development. In my entire career I have never heard of such a huge positive development. With this, other investors will follow,” Sarma said.
The union cabinet also approved the establishment of two other semiconductor units in Gujarat. All the three units will be set up under ‘Development of Semiconductors and Display Manufacturing Ecosystems in India” and will start construction within next 100 days.
