Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma ranked 14th most powerful Indian 2024
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has bagged 14th rank among the most powerful Indians in the list of 100 most powerful leaders conducted by The Indian Express.
It is to be mentioned that Mr Sarma is the only person from Assam who has made it to the list.
Last year, CM Sarma was ranked 17th among the most powerful Indians in the list of 100 most powerful leaders conducted by The Indian Express.
But this year he has jumped to the 14th rank leaving behind Rahul Gandhi, Mamata Banerjee, Arvind Kejriwal and other political party Supremes.
Himanta Biswa Sarma often called ‘Mama’ (meaning maternal uncle) by voters in Assam born on February 1, 1969, is serving as the 15th and current Chief Minister of the state.
Himanta Biswa Sarma took charge as the 15th chief minister of Assam in May 2021.
He is a five-time Member of the Assam Legislative Assembly from Jalukbari.
His first win in an assembly election was in 2001, when he won the Jalukbari seat. His winning streak on the seat is still going strong. In fact, with each passing assembly election, CM Himanta Biswa Sarma has managed to increase his winning margin.
He joined the Bharatiya Janata Party on 23 August 2015. Earlier he was a member of the Indian National Congress political party
Besides, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has bagged the number 1 position. At the same time, Union Home Minister Amit Shah is in the second position.
Meanwhile, Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat on the 3rd following by DY Chandrachud, Chief Justice of India on 4th and S Jaishankar, External Affairs Minister on 5th position in the list.
Interestingly Bollywood actor Shah Rukh Khan bagged 27th rank and Indian cricket star Virat Kohli ranked 38th in this list.
