Rahul Gandhi’s sole intention is to destabilize Assam, disturb its peace: CM Sarma
GUWAHATI, Jan 24: Assam Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma today fired fresh salvos at Congress leader Rahul Gandhi over his ‘Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra’ saying his sole intention in carrying out the rally is to destabilize the State.
Chief Minister Sarma, who was reacting to questions from journalists at Sivasagar where he distributed ration cards among beneficiaries, said Rahul Gandhi does not love Assam, neither has he any regards for Goddess Kamakhya, Srimanta Sankardeva or for that matter luminaries like Bharat Ratna Dr Bhupen Hazarika.
Reacting to the Congress leader and other party leaders and workers trying to break police barricades and attempting to enter the arterial GS Road at Khanapara during yesterday’s Guwahati leg of his rally, Chief Minister Sarma said Assam Police have already registered a suo-moto case against Gandhi and that he could be arrested after the general elections.
“I reiterate Rahul Gandhi has no intention other than disturbing the peace and amity of Assam. That’s why despite requests from me and Assam Police he instigated his party leaders and workers to break police barricades and rally through the centre of Guwahati which, had he been successful, would have stalled traffic and cause innumerable hardships for the common people,” CM Sarma said.
“He created such a fuss wanting to enter Batadrava Than. But he did not stop and offer his tributes at the Samadhi of Dr Bhupen Hazarika, neither did he stop and offer prayers at Kamakhya Temple or at the Hayagriva Madhab Temple, Poa Mecca or Barpeta Than,” the Assam Chief Minister added.
