Assam Police to register criminal case against Rahul Gandhi after Congress supporters clash with police
GUWAHATI, Jan 23: Assam Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma today said that Assam Police will register a criminal case against Congress leader Rahul Gandhi after Congress workers taking part in his ‘Nyay Yatra’ clashed with police in Guwahati.
“Rahul Gandhi tried to enter Guwahati with 300 vehicles and 3000 Congress leaders and workers. When police prevented him from doing so, Congress leaders and workers were seen clashing with police. We will lodge a criminal case against him as he was seen instigating his party workers and leaders to break rules and clash with the policemen. We will not arrest him today but will do so after the Lok Sabha elections,” Chief Minister Sarma said in Dergaon.
Chief Minister Sarma had earlier taken to social media and responded to a video showing Congress leaders clashing with policemen at Khanapara.
“These are not part of Assamese culture. We are a peaceful state. Such “naxalite tactics” are completely alien to our culture. I have instructed @DGPAssamPolice to register a case against your leader @RahulGandhi for provoking the crowd & use the footage you have posted on your handles as the evidence. Your unruly behaviour and violation of agreed guidelines have resulted in a massive traffic jam in Guwahati now,” he wrote on twitter.
