Assam celebrates R-Day with nationalistic fervour, Governor Kataria hoists tricolour at Khanapara
GUWAHATI, Jan 26: Assam joined the rest of the country in celebrating the nation’s 75th Republic Day with Governor Gulab Chand Kataria unfurling the national flag and taking salute of an impressive march past at the Veterinary College playgrounds at Khanapara.
Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma and other senior Government and police officials also attended the function.
Governor Kataria highlighted the achievements of the Himanta Biswa Sarma government in the past year, laying particular emphasis on the peace pacts signed with the pro-talks faction of the ULFA in December and the Dimasa peace pact inked in April, besides also highlighting measures taken to resolve boundary disputes with neighbouring States.
Kataria also said the government is committed to the welfare of the people through various pro-people schemes as he highlighted the State government’s crackdown on child marriages initiated last year.
He also emphasized the government’s zero-tolerance approach to corruption and the arrests made in this regard.
