Meant for smuggling to B’desh, BSF seizes 12,397 kg sugar during B’putra river patrol
GUWAHATI, Dec 12: In yet another drive against trans-border crimes and smuggling, Border Security Force troops deployed under Guwahati Frontier foiled a smuggling bid and seized 12,397 kg sugar meant for smuggling at the Indo-Bangladesh international border.
Troops of BSF’s 49th battalion, during boat patrolling on the Brahmputra near Bighachar village in South Salamara Mankachar district, foiled the smuggling attempt and seized the sugar worth Rs 7.65 lakh.
Two engine-fitted boats meant to smuggle the sugar from India to Bangladesh were also seized.
The seized items were later handed over to the nearest custom office for further legal action, BSF said in a release.
