Assam: Protest after Principal accused of molesting student allowed to leave police station

Situation turned tense at Moran in Eastern Assam’s Dibrugarh district after a group of protestors clashed with police today. The protestors mostly, students, locals as well as AASU activists were opposing the release of a school Principal from police custody, who has been accused of allegedly molesting a student.

Angered over the release of the accused, the agitators took to the streets shouting slogans demanding that stern action be taken against the accused Principal of the Moran Higher Secondary School.

The Principal has been accused of molesting a Class 7 student.

The massive protest led to blocked roads as the agitators decided to stage demonstration in front of the school. This prompted the police and CRPF to intervene and additional security personnel were rushed in to control the situation.

An agitating AASU activist said, “An incident like this has never happened in the history of the Moran Higher Secondary School. There are allegations that the Principal of the Moran Higher Secondary School has molested a student studying in Class 7. A complaint was filed, on the basis of that he was taken to the police station but he was allowed to. We, the Moran Students Union had said that such a person should not be given an opportunity to escape law due to loopholes. But what we saw today is that he has been able to escape. This is not acceptable at all. He should have been sent to jail.”
