Sikkim Flash Floods: Body of Missing Jawan From Assam Recovered

Body of the missing Indian army jawan, hailing from Assam’s Baksa district has been recovered on October 8, according to sources.

The Assam-based Indian army jawan went missing after the flash flood in the Teesta river basin in Sikkim, army sources said here on Thursday(October 5). 

Mitul Kalita, a craftsman serving in the technical department of the Indian Army, was among the 22 soldiers missing after the flash flood in Sikkim on Wednesday (October 5). 

Mitul Kalita was a resident of Assam’s Baksa district who was posted in West Bengal’s Alipurduar. He was instructed to visit Sikkim by his department for some official work, however, on his way back, he went missing after a cloudburst occurred in North Sikkim on October 4.

Expressing condolences to the bereaved family, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma posted on X, “A tragic loss for Assam as it loses a braveheart in Mitul Kalita of Indian Army, from Baksa District, in the unfortunate flash flood in Sikkim. My prayers for the departed soul & condolences to the bereaved family in this hour of grief.”

According to sources, the body of the deceased jawan, will be brought to his residence today evening from Sikkim to perform his last rites.
