Devotees bid tearful adieu to Maa Durga on Vijaya Dashami

GUWAHATI, Oct 24: After four days of fun and frolic amid paying of obeisance to Goddess Durga since the idols were put on the altar on Sasthi, devotees, today, paid a tearful adieu to Maa Durga on Vijaya Dashami.

Amid religious hymns and mantras, and with women devotees applying vermillion on each other during Sindoor Khela celebrations on Vijaya Dashami, the idols were gradually taken out of the pandals, put atop trucks and other vehicles and taken to river banks for immersion.

In Guwahati, the Kamrup (Metro) district administration, city police along with other government agencies made adequate bandobast to ensure smooth immersion of idols.

Besides today, immersion of idols will also take place tomorrow.

Immersion of idols is also taking place smoothly across Assam with devotees flocking to river banks for idol immersion.
