Assam: District status of Biswanath, Hojai, Tamulpur and Bajali restored; 81 new sub-districts created
GUWAHATI, Aug 25: Assam Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma today announced his Government’s decision to restore the status of Biswanath, Hojai, Tamulpur and Bajali as full-fledged districts. He, thereby, kept the promise he made on Dec 31 last year when these districts were merged with their parent districts owing to the delimitation exercise.
The decision was taken during the 100th cabinet meeting of the Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma-led State Government held at the Brahmaputra Guest House today.
The geographical boundaries of these four newly-announced districts have been freshly demarcated and will be somewhat different to what it had been when they last held district status.
