Assam: Sub-inspector Officer-In-Charge booked under POCSO over allegations of minors sexual assault

A 17-year-old girl accused two police officer for sexually assaulting her and took obscene pictures inside the lock up at Ghagrapar police in Ghograpar Police Station in Nalbari, Assam.

The minor lodge an FIR against the two police officer for their action which took place on Monday (June 26).

The two police officers has been identified as SI Bishal Kashyap  and OC Biman Roy.

According to sources, on June 21, the victim girl had allegedly eloped with her lover but they were caught by the police and taken to Ghagrapar Police Station.

Victim claimed that she was forced to remove her clothes by the Sub-Inspector and Officer-In-Charge and clicked her naked picture.

She further added that the SI officer tried to harass her with his obscene gesture.

“I had informed about the incident to a woman police official in the morning but she asked me to keep quiet,” said the minor in her complaint letter.

Following the incident, on Thursday, the Director General of Assam Police (DGP), GP Singh assured that lawful action will be against the Sub-Inspector (SI) if he is found guilty in the First Information Report (FIR) lodged by a minor.

Taking to Twitter, Singh wrote, “Reference reported incident of taking photograph of a girl by a police officer inside Ghograpar Police Station Nalbari – 1.The Complainant (F 17 years) lodged an ejahar on 26/6/23 at Nalbari PS to the effect on 21/6/23 she along with one male person was brought to Ghogrpar Police Station, Nalbari and their one SI ( name not mentioned) sexually assaulted her and took some obscene photograph and used obscene signals to the complainant. In this regards a case has been registered vide Nalbari PS case no- 287/2023, u/s- 354(B)/509 IPC R/W Sec- 12/14(1) of POCSO Act and the case was endorsed to a Woman Addl SP of Nalbari.”

“2.DIG CWR has been asked to visit and give first hand report today 3. PS has CCTV coverage so action would be taken based on that. 4.If found true, strongest lawful action shall be taken. 4.If found true, strongest lawful action shall be taken”, Singh added.

Currently, the SI Bishal Kashyap  has been sent to reserve close and OC Biman Roy has been suspended from his duty.
