Assam CM inaugurates Conclave on implementation of NEP 2020 in Guwahati

Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma on Thursday inaugurated a two-conclave on the implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP) in Guwahati.

Assam has started a conclave on the implementation of NEP 2020 in higher education.

Speaking at the conclave, Assam CM said, “There should be a parity among all universities in terms of curriculum, academic calendars, etc. so that students and parents can be assured of a uniform pedagogy and quality education. The universities should also start enrolling UG students in their campuses. “We need to see that 50 per cent of our universities are within the 100 ranks because gradually Assam is becoming the academic centre hub for the northeast but would like to see it as the hub of eastern India…we have long along spoken about northeast but northeast again is a sub-national identity”.”

“It is my request to the people from academics, if possible use simple terms to explain the framework of NEP so that our students don’t get overwhelmed,” he added.

“I don’t want Assam to be an educational hub just for the North East. I want our state to become a centre for education for Eastern India and the entire Bharat. For this, we need 50 per cent of our universities to come in the top 100 rank,” said the Assam CM.

Taking to Twitter CM Sarma wrote, “Joined the two-day brainstorming conclave on NEP called by Hon Governor Shri @Gulab_kataria ji. Having fulfilled over 95% of the requirements of the National Education Policy, Assam is one of the leading states in its thorough and quality implementation.@dpradhanbjp.”

Addressing a gathering CM Sarma said, “Today all our universities will give a presentation followed by a presentation by the autonomous colleges.”

Further, the CM asserted that the government of Assam is keen to introduce and implement NEP 2020 in both letter and spirit as all the vice-chancellors are committed to the cause by implementing the same in the higher education framework.

However particular agenda is yet to be taken up such as – joining the entrance examination which will be started from next year onwards.

Speaking on the concern of students and the Gurdian community on NEP 2020, the chief minister said that the four-year degree course still looks strange as they are not able to understand the difference between the earlier pattern and that of now.

“Every university should come up with a brochure on NEP 2020 in a FAQ mode so that the NEP is demystified,” added CM Sarma.

Taking to Twitter, Assam Education Minister Ranoj Pegu said Assam became a pioneering state in India to implement the ‘NEP 2020’ in Assam’s universities and colleges.
