Assam: CM Sarma attends AMCH Platinum Jubilee, Announces Rs 300 Cr to construct doctor quarters & students hostel

Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Dr.  Himanta Biswa Sarma attended the Platinum Jubilee celebrations of the Assam Medical College and Hospital (AMCH) in Dibrugarh.

While speaking on the occasion, the CM Sarma made an important announcement. He announced that the state government will provide Rs 300 crores for the medical college’s doctors’ and students’ residences.

Taking to Twitter CM Sarma wrote, “Delighted to attend platinum jubilee celebration of AMCH, Dibrugarh. Paid my tributes to Sir John Berry White whose efforts led to the birth of this NE’s first institute of medical education in 1900 and Gopinath Bordoloi who played a key role in establishing the present AMCH.”

CM Sarma also added, “I also released a commemorative postal stamp, announced ₹300 cr to construct doctor’ quarters & students’ hostel. Asked VC of Srimanta Sankaradeva University of Health Sciences to institute an annual award after Sir John Berry White & give it to the 1st MBBS position holder.”

It may be noted that the premier institute is celebrating 75 years of existence today.
