Assam CM extends birthday greetings to Papon
Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma on Thursday extended birthday wishes to popular Bollywood and Assamese playback singer Papon on his 47th birth anniversary.
Taking to Twitter CM Sarma wrote, “ Heartiest birthday greetings Papon! I pray to Maa Kamakhya and Mahapurush Srimanta Sankardev to bless you with good health and a long life so that you continue to entertain everyone with your wonderful music. @paponmusic“

Wishes from fans and well-wishers have been pouring in for the popular singer.
Born on November 24 in 1975 to Assam’s legendary singer-couple Khagen Mahanta and Archana Mahanta, Angaraag Papon Mahanta has created a niche for himself in Bollywood with his soulful voice. Papon has many popular numbers including Assamese and Hindi to his credit.
He is the lead singer and leader of the band ‘The East India Company.’ Papon has learned to play various instruments and can sing in different genres.
Papon started his music career in 1988 at the age of 13 with an Assamese track, “Gaantu je gaai asila” from the album “Aamiu Gao Gaan”. The song was a duet with Dr Lima Das.
Papon made his debut in Bollywood in 2004 with the song ‘Sajana Bawre’ for the film Let’s Enjoy. But he got his due recognition in 2011 for singing “Jiyein Kyun” for the film Dum Maaro Dum.
Since then he has made a huge fan following of him and has given many hits songs that will be remembered by the fans forever.
