India’s Nikhat Zareen wins Gold at Women’s World Boxing Championship
Guwahati: India’s Nikhat Zareen beats Thailand boxer Jitpong Jutamas 5-0 in the flyweight 52 kg category final to win gold medal at the Women’s World Boxing Championships in Istanbul, Turkey on Thursday (May 19).
With this win, Zareen becomes the fifth Indian women’s boxer after Mary Kom, Sarita Devi, Jenny RL and Lekha KC to win a gold at the World Championships.
Apart from Zareen’s gold, Manisha Moun (57kg) and debutant Parveen Hooda (63kg) will return home with bronze medals.
A 12-member Indian contingent was sent to participate in the competition.
