Batadrava Violence: Prime accused held for setting police station on fire
Guwahati: The Nagaon police, with the help of the Darrang police, arrested the mastermind and prime accused in the Batadrava arson incident late Thursday night.
The police have held the prime accused behind setting the Batadrava police station on fire in Nagaon district after a man allegedly died in police custody.
The accused, identified as Alauddin, reportedly fled from Batadrava and went into hiding immediately after the Nagaon police identified him from the video footage.
A team of the Nagaon police reached the district on Thursday evening and launched a massive manhunt with the help of personnel from the Dhula police station to nab Alauddin.
The accused tried to escape but after chasing him for around six kilometres, the police were able to nab him from the Mousida area under Dhula police station in Assam’s Darrang district.
While he was arrested and brought to Dhula police station, he will be shifted to Nagaon on Friday.
On May 21, a mob of several hundred people attacked the Batadrava police station and attacked police personnel on duty. They vandalized the station before setting it on fire. Around three policemen were injured in the attack
