Assam Govt Orders To Shut Schools Up To Class 8 In Kamrup (M) Amid Omicron Scare

Physical classes will be allowed on alternate days for class 9 students in Kamrup (M) district

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Friday announced fresh restrictions and curbs owing to the rise in Covid-19 cases in the State. He announced the closure of schools in Kamrup Metropolitan (M) district till class 8. In other districts, schools will be closed for students till class 5.
A Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) was also issued for the same which stated that physical classes will be allowed on alternate days for class 9 students in Kamrup (M) district and for class 6 and above in all other districts.
The physical classes for Degree/Post-Graduate final students of Engineering and Medical Colleges will be allowed in Assam with fully vaccinated students.
The new SOP will come into effect from 6 am on January 8.
Meanwhile, the cases of the new Covid-19 variant Omicron has increased in the State to nine. Among the nine cases, three have fully recovered.
India has crossed the 3000-mark of Omicron cases with 3,007 cases so far. Of which 1,199 people have recovered to date.
Maharashtra continues to be the worst-hit state with the highest number of Omicron cases with 876, of which 361-patients have recovered.
Meanwhile, India on Friday reported 1,17,100 fresh COVID-19 cases, 28.8% higher than the previous day.
